Our Story

The Hockey Headquarters in Sioux Falls opened its doors in October of 1999 operating under the name “The Stick Shack.” The original business name came from a relationship formed with the storied hockey shop of the same name from Omaha, Neb, itself opening sometime in the 60's. During the 70's the Post family of Sioux City, IA, did much of their hockey equipment shopping down at the Stick Shack in Omaha. With Bob Post heading the Sioux City Squirt team for over 10+ years, a relationship was formed between hockey shop owner and hockey coach.

Forward 20 years with the Post family now living in Sioux Falls, SD. Having heard the news that a new USHL junior team was starting operation in the fall of 1999, the duo of Bob and son Bert thought Sioux Falls had the makings of a good hockey town in need of a great hockey shop. Bob contacted Larry at the Stick Shack in Omaha, and that relationship formed back in the 70's reignited into the grand opening of The Stick Shack of Sioux Falls on November 13, 1999.

After 30+ years of running The Stick Shack in Omaha, Larry decided to call it quits , and the Stick Shack of Sioux Falls officially became The Hockey Headquarters. The Post family continues to serve its customers with the same tradition of excellence, making sure you get the right sports gear with the right fit at the right price.
